Rangers Eyeing 6-foot-7 Power Forward Prospect in NHL Draft
The New York Rangers, holding the No. 30 overall pick in this year’s NHL Draft after their Eastern Conference Finals exit, are looking to enhance their prospect pool with a unique talent.
Targeting Dean Letourneau in the First Round
With their late first-round pick, the Rangers are unlikely to draft an immediate superstar but could secure a high-potential player. One such prospect is Dean Letourneau, an 18-year-old Canadian who recently accelerated his development by joining Boston College’s 2024 recruiting class, originally slated for the 2025-26 season.
Letourneau’s Unique Skillset
Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 210 pounds, Letourneau is notable for his combination of size, speed, and skill. According to Elite Prospects, Letourneau is an exceptional athlete who moves fluidly on the ice, using crossover techniques to avoid slower strides and demonstrating good agility and separation of upper and lower body movements. His offensive game is characterized by downhill attacks, utilizing his size to drive the net or create opportunities for teammates.
Impressive Performance
Last season, Letourneau played as a power forward, primarily centering the line for St. Andrew’s College, where he scored 127 points in 56 games, including 61 goals and 66 assists. This outstanding performance led Boston College to bring him into their 2024 class, accelerating his path to potentially making an impact in the NHL sooner than expected.
