The Montreal Canadiens have signed forward Oliver Kapanen to a three-year, entry-level contract. The 20-year-old centre had an impressive season with KalPa Kuopio in Finland’s Liiga, recording 34 points (14 goals and 20 assists) in 51 games. Kapanen also excelled in the playoffs, adding 14 points (seven goals and seven assists) in 13 games, which tied him for the most points and placed him second in goals scored.
In addition to his club success, Kapanen represented Finland at this year’s World Hockey Championship, where he led the team with six goals in eight games.
His performance ranked him fifth in goals among all players, tied with four others. Kapanen was originally selected by the Canadiens in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft, 64th overall.
With his entry-level contract, Kapanen is set to bring his scoring prowess and international experience to the Canadiens as they look to develop young talent and strengthen their roster.
