ESPN News: Dallas Mavericks Confirm As Landing Spot For Top Experienced $132 Million NBA Star

$132 Million Wing Considered ‘Dream Fit’ for Mavericks

After a surprising run to the NBA Finals, the Dallas Mavericks are looking to strengthen their roster for next season. One potential addition is Portland Trail Blazers wing Jerami Grant.

Grant has significantly improved over the past few years, averaging over 20 points per game in three of the last four seasons. Kevin O’Connor from The Ringer described Grant as a “hidden gem” due to his versatile defense, shooting ability, and off-the-dribble skills. O’Connor believes Grant would excel on the Mavericks, benefiting from the playmaking of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, which would provide him with more open shots and reduce the burden on Doncic and Irving.

Grant, who last played for a playoff team with the Denver Nuggets in the 2019-20 season, is entering the second year of a five-year, $160 million contract.

Analyst Suggests Trail Blazers Trade Jerami Grant

While there are no current reports of the Trail Blazers planning to trade Grant, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz argued that trading veterans like Grant should be a priority for Portland. With the team finishing last in the Western Conference and projected to be in the luxury tax, Swartz suggested that moving high-salary veterans like Grant and Malcolm Brogdon would help the team avoid the luxury tax and focus on acquiring young talent.

Swartz emphasized that keeping the current roster intact would be a mistake for Portland, advocating for a complete youth movement.

Mavericks’ Previous Trade Efforts

Before the NBA Trade Deadline, the Mavericks attempted to acquire Kyle Kuzma but were unsuccessful. Kuzma revealed that he didn’t want to join Dallas at the time because he felt their timelines for contention didn’t align, a decision that seems questionable in hindsight given the Mavericks’ eventual Finals run.

Though Grant and Kuzma are different types of players, they both play the same position and are established scorers. Grant’s potential role in Dallas could make him a valuable addition, complementing the team’s existing stars and contributing to their success.
