ESPN Sad News Report: Pittsburgh Pirates Confirm Another Departure Of Top Experienced Who Reject New Contract With Pirates

**Pirates Trade LHP Jose Hernandez to Los Angeles Dodgers for Cash**

Jose Hernandez is returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Just two days after being designated for assignment, the Pirates traded the left-handed reliever to the Dodgers on Thursday night in exchange for cash considerations.

The Pirates had selected Hernandez from the Dodgers in the 2022 Rule 5 Draft. Last season, he posted a 1-3 record with a 4.97 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP, averaging 11 strikeouts and 3.9 walks per nine innings over 50 2/3 innings in 50 appearances.

Hernandez, 26, did not make the Pirates’ Opening Day roster after spring training but was added to the team when Roansy Contreras went on paternity leave. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound pitcher recorded his first career major league save by pitching a scoreless 12th inning in a 1-0 win over the Miami Marlins on March 28, the season opener.

This season, Hernandez split his time between Triple-A Indianapolis and the Pirates, recording a 1-1 record with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP over 5 1/3 innings in seven appearances.
