Boston Bruins Sign Depth Defenseman

 

On Sunday, June 23, 2024, Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced the signing of defenseman Ian Mitchell to a Three-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 for the 2024-25 season.

Mitchell, serving as a depth defenseman for the Bruins, played 13 games for Boston during the 2023-24 season, recording two assists, a plus-six rating, and ten penalty minutes. Over his career, he has played in 95 NHL games across four seasons, tallying four goals, 14 assists, 18 points, and a minus-15 rating.

He spent most of the 2023-24 season with the Bruins’ AHL affiliate in Providence, where he appeared in 42 games, scoring six goals and 18 assists for a total of 24 points, and achieved a plus-ten rating.

Originally from St. Albert, Alberta, Mitchell was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, 57th overall, after three years at the University of Denver. The 25-year-old right-shot defenseman joined the Bruins on June 26, 2023, along with Alec Regula, in a trade that sent Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno to the Blackhawks.
