After several months of preparation, Dontrell Glover is finally going to Georgia.
There are typically two commitments in a recruitment. There comes a time when a top recruit declares his intention to attend his preferred university. Next comes the moment when the prospect makes their decision public. Occasionally, those choices are made almost at the same time. Sometimes it drags on.
In Glover’s case, he expressed his desire to play for the Georgia football team to offensive line coach Stacy Searels the week before G-Day in April. Glover publicly announced his choice on Monday, officially choosing Georgia over South Carolina and Tennessee.
“I could easily picture myself having fun there. “It’s encouraging when I can envision myself playing at a school that complements my style of play,” he said in reference to his dedication to Dawgs247. “I went to Coach Searels’ office following the spring game. We conversed. I simply informed him that it will occur. He was not demanding it. As mentioned, I’m a boy from Georgia. I love Georgia very much. There’s a lot of Georgia in my house. I believe that my family was simply pleased to see that I was staying at home.”
Glover has marked July 1 as the decision date ever since. After meeting with Georgia coaches early last week, he concluded that the situation didn’t need to drag on any longer. After all was said and done, he decided to commit on Monday at 1 p.m., when he picked the Bulldogs.
This is especially important because Glover’s family has a long history with Georgia; yet, once Glover committed to Alabama, his mother developed a personal bond with the Crimson Tide, which Glover joked she was able to overcome following the formal visit to Georgia from June 7–9.
“My entire family is a Georgia fan. They adore Georgia. Georgia is my favorite state. Nothing could possibly be wrong with it,” he declared. “When I committed to Alabama, my mother was initially quite upset because she liked the coaches and everything about Alabama far more than anything else. However, she realized her mistake with Georgia, so it was merely humorous.”
The Langston Hughes, Georgia, native, who stands 6 feet 3 inches and weighs 315 pounds, will play interior offensive line for Georgia. He can play either guard or center because he has trained with Searels in both positions.
Glover attributed his choice to his friendship with Searels.
He does not leave the O-line. Glover remarked, “I need a coach that will stick with me when I make mistakes. Even when things are going well for me, there are still certain things I lack. I just think that in order to stay motivated, I need a coach like Coach Searels.”
Georgia now has 14 commitments for the 2025 recruiting class thanks to Glover. After Mason Short, he is the class’s second offensive lineman.
