On Tuesday, the Colorado Avalanche announced that they had re-signed forward Casey Mittelstadt to a three-year contract extension, securing his services until the end of the 2026–2027 season. Mittelstadt, who is 25 years old, was acquired by the Avalanche in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres in March 2024. Since joining the team, he has made a significant impact, scoring 10 points in 18 regular-season games.
Mittelstadt’s performance during the season was impressive. He finished ranked sixth in goals, seventh in assists, and eighth in points on the team. His consistent improvement has not gone unnoticed by the Avalanche management. General Manager Chris MacFarland expressed his satisfaction with the new contract, stating, “Every season has seen him improve, and this past year he made yet another significant step forward. We think he can perform much better, so getting him contracted for a number of years was crucial. At just 25 years old, Casey is a dynamic playmaking center with exceptional hands and vision who will play a significant role in our team moving forward.”
Standing at 6-foot-1, Mittelstadt has demonstrated his skill and versatility as a forward. Over his career, which includes time with both the Avalanche and the Sabres, he has played in 357 NHL regular season games and scored a total of 196 points. As he heads into the 2024–2025 season, the Avalanche are confident that Mittelstadt will continue to be a key contributor to their success. The team’s decision to secure him for the next three years underscores their belief in his potential and their commitment to building a strong, competitive roster.
