ESPN Sad News: Brad Treliving Confirm Two Maple Leafs Players Leafs Will Not Resign Amid Free Agency

**Maple Leafs News: Domi and Bertuzzi Likely to Test Free Agency**

Max Domi and Tyler Bertuzzi are expected to explore NHL free agency, leaving potential gaps for the Toronto Maple Leafs to fill. Reports suggest that while Bertuzzi is likely to enter the market, there’s still a possibility for the Leafs to secure a deal with Domi, who has expressed a desire to stay with the team.

Bertuzzi finished the regular season with 21 goals and 22 assists in 80 games and added one goal and three assists in the postseason series against the Boston Bruins. Domi recorded 9 goals and 47 points in 80 games for the Leafs and contributed one goal and three assists in the playoffs.

Bertuzzi, who signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Leafs in July 2023, initially sought a long-term home. With the salary cap increasing, he aims to maximize his earnings, and several teams, including the Leafs, are expected to pursue him.

On The Chris Johnston Show, NHL insider Chris Johnston noted that while there is mutual interest, the contract length remains a sticking point. Bertuzzi has expressed a willingness to stay in Toronto, saying, “That’s definitely something I’m open to. I really enjoyed myself this year,” but he is seeking a longer-term deal this summer.

Max Domi, another pending unrestricted free agent, is also likely to test the market. Despite Domi’s positive experience in Toronto and strong connections with the organization, contract negotiations have not progressed significantly. Domi is seeking long-term security, likely a 3-4-year deal, but the Leafs are hesitant to commit to such a lengthy term.

**The Maple Leafs’ Plans for This Week**

As the Leafs work out the situations with Domi and Bertuzzi, they are also focusing on bolstering their defense, with Chris Tanev as a top target. They are looking to add another right-shot defenseman, increase forward depth, and secure a second goaltender.

General Manager Brad Treliving is tasked with balancing the retention of key players like Bertuzzi and Domi while addressing other roster needs to strengthen the team for the upcoming season. Due to the need to be selective with contracts, both players may be inclined to test free agency.
