Chris Ewald, a five-star cornerback, made an early Thursday night commitment to the Miami football school over Georgia.
Chris Ewald, a four-star cornerback, is one of the biggest promises the Miami football club will receive in the 2025 class. He made his decision early on Thursday night. Out of Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna, Ewald is the 169th prospect, the 21st CB, and the 24th player in Florida for the 2025 class.
In the 2025 class, Brock Schott, a tight end, and Girard Pringle Jr., a running back, are the only prospective Miami players ranked higher nationally than Ewald. Mario Cristobal, new secondary coach Chevis Jackson, co-defensive coordinators Lance Guidry and Derek Nicholson, and Ewald are all dependent on him.
After Jackson was hired away from Marshall to Miami during the 2024 summer, he spearheaded the recruitment of Ewald. Ewald is Miami’s 2025 second-choice wide receiver and third defensive back. CB Timothy Merritt and safety Amari Wallace had previously committed to Miami.
With Ewald added, the 2025 Miami class rises to the 17th spot nationally. The 2025 Miami class was ranked in the 40s in the 247Sports aggregate rankings prior to the new wave of commits. Miami has prioritized CB in the class of 2025. In June, Ewald and Merritt were among the ten CBs that paid official visits to Miami.
Miami was Ewald’s choice over Georgia. This past weekend was Ewald’s official visit to the Bulldogs. Soon after Ewald de-committed from Michigan in January, Miami was thought to be the favorite, but according to a number of recruiting sources, Georgia was putting in a late push for a commitment.
Ewald, who is 6’0,” gives Miami the length at CB that Cristobal prefers. Ewald needs to put on more muscle on his 165-pound body. As a rookie, Ewald ought to have an opportunity to contend for big snaps. Miami loses starting wide receiver Darryl Porter, who will play one more season in 2024 before losing eligibility.
Miami’s 2025 roster lacks depth and experience at the position of cornerback. In 2025, when Ewald is starting his final season, sophomore Damari Brown might be starting his final season at Miami. Brown is qualified to enter the 2026 NFL Draft. On the Miami team in 2025, Ewald is expected to be among the best-rated cornerbacks.
