**Miami Football Secures Key Commitment from 4-Star CB Chris Ewald**
Four-star cornerback Chris Ewald committed to the Miami football program over Georgia early Thursday evening. Ewald, ranked as the 169th overall prospect, 21st cornerback, and 24th player in Florida from Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna, is one of the biggest commitments for Miami’s 2025 class.
Tight end Brock Schott and running back Girard Pringle Jr. are the only 2025 Miami commits ranked higher nationally than Ewald. This commitment is crucial for head coach Mario Cristobal, co-defensive coordinators Lance Guidry and Derek Nicholson, and new secondary coach Chevis Jackson, who led Ewald’s recruitment after joining Miami from Marshall in the 2024 offseason.
Ewald is the second cornerback and third defensive back in Miami’s 2025 class, joining safety Amari Wallace and cornerback Timothy Merritt. With Ewald’s addition, Miami’s 2025 recruiting class has moved up to 17th nationally. Prior to recent commitments, the class was ranked in the 40s in the 247Sports composite rankings. Miami has prioritized cornerbacks in the 2025 class, with Ewald and Merritt among 10 cornerbacks who visited Miami in June.
Ewald chose Miami over Georgia, which hosted him for an official visit last weekend. Despite Miami being the favorite since Ewald de-committed from Michigan in January, Georgia made a strong late push for his commitment.
Standing at 6’0″, Ewald offers the length Cristobal prefers in cornerbacks, although he will need to add muscle to his 165-pound frame. Ewald should have the opportunity to compete for significant playing time as a freshman, as Miami’s starting cornerback Darryl Porter will be finishing his eligibility in 2024, and the team lacks depth and experience at the position for 2025. Sophomore Damari Brown, who might enter the 2026 NFL Draft, could be entering his final season when Ewald joins the team. Ewald is expected to be one of the highest-rated cornerbacks on Miami’s 2025 roster.
