Good News: Just In Aaron Boone Confirm Another Signing Of Top Experienced $80million MLB Superstar

Yankees Land Marlins’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. in Mock Trade Scenario

Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres is struggling in the 2024 season, recently benched for poor performance. With his return to the lineup against the Toronto Blue Jays, his season stats over 80 games—.215 batting average, .294 OBP, and .333 slugging—are disappointing. With Giancarlo Stanton on the injured list, the Yankees need Torres and other veterans to step up.

Potential Trade Target: Jazz Chisholm Jr.

If Torres continues to underperform as the late July trade deadline nears, General Manager Brian Cashman may explore replacement options. One potential target is Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins. Chisholm, a free agent in 2027, is having a solid season with a .260 batting average, 10 homers, 37 RBIs, and a 111 wRC+. His 84th percentile sprint speed could add much-needed athleticism to the Yankees’ lineup.

Chisholm’s Potential Impact

Though Chisholm’s aggressive approach at the plate is a drawback, shown by his 34th percentile chase rate and 25th percentile whiff rate, his 83rd percentile barrel rate indicates untapped power. Additionally, Chisholm’s versatility in the infield and centerfield offers strategic advantages for the Yankees.

Possible Trade Package

Acquiring Chisholm won’t come cheap. Jim Bowden of The Athletic suggests a trade package centered around right-hander Will Warren, with Everson Pereira and Jace Avina also included. Warren, a 25-year-old pitcher with a 6.53 ERA at Triple-A Scranton, has regressed from previous performances. Pereira, a 23-year-old outfielder, is recovering from a UCL injury and set for Tommy John surgery. Avina, a promising 21-year-old, currently plays at High-A Hudson Valley.

Strategic Decisions for the Yankees

This trade could significantly benefit the Yankees by addressing performance gaps caused by Torres’s struggles. Additionally, the Yankees might consider benching Torres or trading him for pitching, giving another team the chance to bet on his recovery and potential extension after a tough season.
