**The Montreal Canadiens Select Makar Khanin 210th Overall**
The Montreal Canadiens picked 19-year-old Makar Khanin at 210th overall in the seventh round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
Makar, a 6-foot left winger, played for Dynamo St. Petersburg last season in both the MHL and VHL. In the MHL, he scored seven goals and two assists in seven games. After being promoted to the VHL, he continued to perform well, tallying nine goals and 18 assists in 35 games.
Khanin wasn’t expected to be a top pick, with McKeen’s ranking him 132nd in their pre-draft rankings.
**Montreal Canadiens Draft Pick Information and Pre-Draft Trades**
Heading into the 2024 NHL Draft, the Montreal Canadiens held 10 draft picks: 5th overall, 21st overall (via Los Angeles), 70th overall, 78th overall (via Minnesota), 102nd overall, 130th overall (via San Jose), 134th overall, 166th overall, 210th overall (via Washington), and 224th overall (via Edmonton).
Initially holding 12 picks, the Canadiens made a pre-draft trade with the Los Angeles Kings to move up in the draft. They traded the 26th overall pick (via Winnipeg), the 57th overall pick (via Colorado), and the 198th overall pick for the 21st overall pick. With a strong prospect pool and plenty of draft capital, this quality-over-quantity approach was well-received by fans.
With the fifth overall pick, the Canadiens selected talented forward Ivan Demidov, considered the second-best talent in 2024. He immediately became the most important player in their prospect pool, which is already one of the best in the NHL.
They also selected USHL standout Michael Hage, a versatile forward expected to add depth, intelligence, and speed to their game.
Overall, the Canadiens had a successful first round at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
