Official Browns News: Cleveland Browns Confirm To Finally Reached Agreement To Sign Top Experienced NFL Free Agent

**A Strategic Addition: Browns Eye Free-Agent Linebacker Before 2024 Training Camp**

Could adding a free-agent linebacker complete the Cleveland Browns’ 2024 roster?

Despite boasting a strong defense, the Browns face uncertainties at linebacker, a key position. To bolster their roster before the 2024 training camp, signing a free-agent linebacker seems like an ideal move.

Zach Cunningham, a 6-foot-3, 238-pound veteran, fits the bill perfectly. With over 300 tackles during the 2019-20 seasons and a solid performance with 85 tackles for the Eagles last year, Cunningham has demonstrated his capability and resilience.

While Cunningham isn’t expected to dominate, his role would be complementary, supporting stars like defensive end Myles Garrett.

Potential Impact of LB Zach Cunningham on the Browns’ Defense

The Browns’ defense, under the guidance of defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, is set for some strategic adjustments in 2024. Schwartz hinted at refining their approach, adding new elements while maintaining their core strengths.

Improving Red Zone defense is a priority. Despite leading the NFL in total defense (270.2 yards per game) and pass defense (164.7 yards per game), and topping third-down defense (29.1% conversion rate), the Browns struggled in the Red Zone, allowing a 71.4% touchdown rate. Their playoff exit with a 45-14 loss to the Texans highlighted this vulnerability.

Schwartz emphasized learning from past mistakes to enhance future performance, especially in critical game situations.

Enhancing Cleveland’s Defensive Depth

The addition of Jordan Hicks alongside Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah has strengthened the linebacker position. However, depth remains a concern. The Browns have invested in Devin Bush and drafted Nathanial Watson to fill gaps left by Sione Takitaki’s departure. With Tony Fields in the final year of his contract and Mohamoud Diabate as an undrafted free agent from last year, the need for reliable linebackers is evident.

For the Browns to compete effectively in the postseason against teams like Kansas City and Buffalo, sure-handed tackling is essential. Adding Cunningham would be a crucial step in solidifying their defensive depth and enhancing their postseason prospects.
