**Sources: Klay Thompson to Join Mavericks on 3-Year, $50M Deal**
Free agent Klay Thompson plans to join the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year, $50 million deal that includes a player option, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Thompson’s move to Dallas is part of a multi-team sign-and-trade that will also send Mavericks guard Josh Green to Charlotte. Despite having offers for more money over four years, Thompson opted for the Mavericks, attracted by the chance to win a fifth championship and the benefit of lower state taxes.
At 34, Thompson is regarded as one of the greatest shooters in NBA history. He has spent over a decade forming the best shooting backcourt alongside Stephen Curry with the Golden State Warriors.
A five-time All-Star, Thompson has been integral to Golden State’s four NBA titles over the past decade, delivering several legendary postseason performances during their dynastic run.
Before entering free agency, Thompson was the second-longest tenured player with his current team, behind only Curry, having been with the Warriors since 2011.
Last season, Thompson averaged 17.9 points and shot 38.7% from 3-point range on nine attempts per game. He came off the bench in 14 games for the first time since his rookie year, a role he initially found challenging but eventually excelled in, posting better numbers and efficiency.
Thompson has successfully returned from missing two entire seasons due to a torn ACL and a torn Achilles tendon. Over the past three seasons, he has regained his form, including playing 77 games last year. He remains an elite shooter, making 219 catch-and-shoot 3-pointers last season, the second most in the NBA.
