Maple Leafs Sign Dakota Mermis
The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed 30-year-old defenseman Dakota Mermis, a left-shot defender standing 6 feet tall and weighing 194 pounds, according to Elite Prospects.
Most recently, Mermis played for the Minnesota Wild and their AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild. Last season, he served as captain of the Iowa Wild, showcasing his leadership qualities and experience in the AHL.
Details of Mermis’ contract with the Maple Leafs are yet to be disclosed. However, considering his previous contract was a league-minimum, two-way deal, it’s likely that Mermis has been signed under similar terms. This acquisition appears to be aimed at strengthening the Toronto Marlies, the Maple Leafs’ AHL affiliate, by adding a seasoned professional to their roster.
Though Mermis is American, he has a connection to Canadian hockey, having played for the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
Welcome to the team, Dakota Mermis.
