Texas Lands Major Commitment from No. 1 In-State EDGE
Four-star EDGE Smith Orogbo announced his commitment to Texas on Monday.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound edge rusher chose the Longhorns over Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Washington. With Orogbo’s commitment, Texas now holds pledges from the top two in-state EDGE prospects for the 2025 class.
Orogbo is the No. 26 overall prospect and No. 3 EDGE in the 2025 class. According to On3, he is ranked as the No. 1 EDGE and No. 7 player in Texas. He completed his junior season at Alief Hastings High School with 103 tackles and nine sacks.
“Texas has a storied football program with a rich history and tradition of success. State-of-the-art training facilities, stadium, and resources available to athletes. The reputation and experience of the current coaching staff, as well as their ability to develop players. The fan base is passionate and dedicated, creating an exciting and supportive game-day atmosphere. That NFL pipeline and strong track record of producing NFL talent and providing exposure to scouts and professional opportunities,” Orogbo told On3’s Joe Cook.
Following Orogbo’s commitment, Texas’ 2025 recruiting class ranks No. 14 nationally and No. 8 in the SEC. Orogbo is the 13th commitment in the 2025 class, which is headlined by four-star EDGE Lance Jackson.
Texas has secured eight in-state commitments, including four-star linebacker Elijah Barnes and four-star running back Rickey Stewart Jr.
