The four-star offensive lineman Carde Smith backed out of his commitment to the Tigers after committing to Auburn on April 10.
“I have decided to decommit from Auburn University after days of deep thought and prayer,” Smith posted on the social networking site X, which was formerly known as Twitter. “My family and I had a really difficult time making this choice. I want to express my gratitude to the Auburn coaching staff as a whole for their time, work, and enthusiasm in my recruitment.
At 6-foot-5 and 293 pounds, Smith is rated by 247Sports as the No. 15 recruit in the state of Alabama and the No. 26 offensive lineman in the class of 2025.
The native of Mobile, Alabama, committed to Auburn in April, beating out schools like Florida State and Mississippi State. Smith recently traveled to Los Angeles last weekend, thus USC has recently been involved in his recruitment.
Before he enters his senior year of high school, Smith has received over two dozen offers.
Smith retracted his promise, but Auburn still has 15 commits in their 2025 class, four of them are offensive linemen. According to 247Sports, Hugh Freeze and the Tigers’ 2025 class is ranked sixth in the nation.
