Good News: Five-Star Linebacker Commits To Miami Hurricanes Over FSU Football

Florida State’s success on the recruiting trail over the past seven days has garnered national attention. Although the Seminoles are assembling a potential top-15 class, the truth is that they will not be able to sign every player on their wish list.

Four-star linebacker Gavin Nix made his commitment to Miami over FSU known on social media on Monday. After making an official visit to Tallahassee at the end of June, Nix’s name was among those on the top of the linebacker board.

This year, the Floridian spent two weekends on campus, including last weekend. He also traveled to Miami and Oregon for government business.

While this is undoubtedly a good addition for the Hurricanes, Florida State shouldn’t be overly concerned. The Seminoles are in the lead to sign four-star Tavion Wallace, who will make an announcement tomorrow between the Seminoles, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, and South Carolina. They already have four-star Ethan Pritchard committed. Additionally, the coaching staff is still doing research on Ohio State commit TJ Alford.
Nix recently finished his junior year at IMG Academy with 42 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, and 1 sack.

In the 2025 class, 247Sports ranks the 6-foot-0, 225-pound linebacker as the No. 88 overall talent, the No. 11 LB, and the No. 15 recruit in Florida.

Florida State, ranked No. 36 in the nation, has nine verbal commitments in #Tribe25. After selecting four-star defensive lineman Kevin Wynn, four-star wide receiver CJ Wiley, four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles, four-star tight end Chase Loftin, and four-star defensive back Zae Thomas, the Seminoles have more than quadrupled their class in recent weeks.
