MLB Insider Explains Why Atlanta Braves Should Target Jazz Chisholm Trade, But Highlights Major Hurdle
A prominent MLB insider suggests that the Atlanta Braves should prioritize acquiring Miami Marlins shortstop Jazz Chisholm Jr. at the trade deadline, but notes that completing such a deal could be challenging.
Currently, the Braves have a solid lead in the National League Wild Card Race and are likely to finish second in the East, barring an unexpected collapse by the Philadelphia Phillies. Therefore, their focus for the second half of the season is to finish strong and strengthen their roster for the playoffs.
The Braves have been linked to various players ahead of the July 30 MLB trade deadline, and one lesser-known target they might consider is Marlins shortstop Jazz Chisholm Jr. The former All-Star could be available as Miami traditionally sells players before the deadline.
In a recent Q&A column, a fan asked The Athletic MLB insider Jim Bowden about Chisholm Jr.’s fit for Atlanta. Bowden believes Chisholm would be a great addition if the Braves move him to second base. However, he also pointed out a potential obstacle.
“I’m a fan of Chisholm but think his best position is second base and if I’m Atlanta, I would have no problem moving Ozzie Albies over to shortstop because he’s a plus defender there too,” Bowden wrote. “I do like Chisholm’s fit with the Braves and think their clubhouse culture would do him wonders. I’m just not sure the Braves farm system matches up well with the Marlins, based on conversations I’ve had with front-office executives.”
Jazz Chisholm Jr. is under team control for two more seasons.
