**Good News: Experienced NBA All-Star Agrees to Join San Antonio Spurs to Pair with Victor Wembanyama**
This offseason, the San Antonio Spurs have been linked to trades for All-Star players such as Lauri Markkanen and Dejounte Murray. Recently, rumors are intensifying about another potential target for the Spurs.
During the 2024 NBA Draft, the Spurs traded their second top-10 pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves for two future first-round picks. This move bolsters their draft capital, positioning them well for a major trade.
While the Spurs missed out on Dejounte Murray and find the Utah Jazz’s asking price for Markkanen too high, they may be targeting another All-Star to pair with Victor Wembanyama. According to Sam Amico of Hoops Wire, the Spurs have shown interest in New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram. Other interested teams include the Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, and Sacramento Kings.
Brandon Ingram, who has a $36.016 million salary for the 2024-25 season and will be a free agent in 2025, could be traded by the Pelicans, especially since they have not agreed on a long-term deal with him. Ingram’s stats from last season include 20.8 points per game, 5.1 rebounds per game, 5.7 assists per game, with shooting percentages of 49.2% from the field and 35.5% from three-point range.
Entering his age-27 season, Ingram would be an excellent addition to the Spurs lineup alongside Wembanyama, providing a crucial scoring threat and complementing recently-signed point guard Chris Paul. If the Spurs acquire Ingram, they would likely seek a contract extension before he becomes a free agent in 2025. Additionally, if the Kings acquire DeMar DeRozan, it could give the Spurs more leverage in trade discussions with the Pelicans.
