Two members of Alabama football’s 2025 recruiting class renounced their pledges on Wednesday. Athlete Zymear Smith and linebacker Miles Johnson both declared they are restarting their recruitment.
The 247Sports composite rankings grade Smith as a four-star recruit. Johnson has a three-star rating.
Smith, who plays football for North Caroline High School in Maryland, committed to Alabama in March but just returned from an official trip to the state. He is ranked as the 12th best athlete in the class by the 247 composite.
Johnson attends T.R. Miller in Brewton to play high school basketball. In October, before Kalen DeBoer succeeded Nick Saban as head coach of the Crimson Tide, he made his commitment to UA.
Johnson was ranked No. 51 among linebackers in the 2025 class by 247 Composite. He has more offers from schools including Mississippi State, Liberty, and Florida.
On Wednesday, Alabama had already accepted two promises earlier in the day. Before everyone else, four-star Ohio edge Justin Hill made his pledge. The Tide defeated Southern Cal, Oregon, and Ohio State.
Kicker Peter Notaro also declared his commitment later on. He is ranked as the fourth kicker in the 2025 class by Kohl’s Professional Camps.
The 247 composite continued to rank Alabama’s class as the second best in the country even after the decommitments. Behind Ohio State is the Crimson Tide.
