Celtics Re-Sign JD Davison to Two-Way Contract

JD Davison, former Alabama guard, has signed another two-way contract with the Boston Celtics, marking his third season with the organization, as announced on Monday.

Drafted 53rd overall by the Celtics in the 2022 NBA Draft, Davison will continue to split his time between the Boston Celtics and their G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics. Players on two-way contracts can participate in up to 50 regular-season games and earn 50 percent of the rookie minimum salary for one season before becoming free agents. Last season, Davison’s earnings were $559,782.

Primarily playing for the Maine Celtics last season, Davison emerged as a top performer in the G League, averaging 21.5 points and 8.5 assists per game, and leading the team to the G League finals, where they were defeated by the OKC Blue.

Davison appeared in seven regular-season NBA games last season, with his best game being a 7-point, 7-assist, and 4-rebound performance against the Charlotte Hornets in April.

This new contract gives Davison another year to develop within the Celtics organization with the aim of securing a standard contract. Notably, his former college teammate, Keon Ellis, recently secured a standard contract with the Sacramento Kings after spending multiple years on a two-way deal.

For now, Davison will compete with the Celtics’ summer league team, with games starting later this week in Las Vegas.
