The majority of MLB contenders have been occupied searching for pivotal actions that can aid their club in the closing stages of the season. However, the Atlanta Braves, the Philadelphia Phillies’ primary division rivals, recently took a risky but obviously desperate action.
According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, the Braves signed veteran Eddie Rosario to a minor league contract last week. The purported purpose of the relocation was to give the company more valuable insurance depth. But Rosario’s contract was chosen right away, and on Monday he was called up to the major league team. What was even more unexpected was that he was started in the opening lineup against the Arizona Diamondbacks right away.
Braves’ most recent addition is an indication of desperation for the division rival Phillies
It may seem like a wise decision for Atlanta. Ultimately, during Rosario’s three-year tenure with the Braves from 2021 to 2023, he played a significant role in the team’s 2021 World Series victory and was named NLCS MVP. That was the final time Rosario wore a Braves uniform.
In 257 games over his career with the Braves, he batted.243 with a.718 OPS, adding 33 home runs and 114 RBI. Thus, in his reorganization with the squad, Atlanta must be hoping for some more of that magic.
But this season, Rosario was a shadow of the player he was when he played for the Washington Nationals. Before joining the Braves, he had played in 67 games and had a pitiful.183 average, a meager.555 OPS, 26 runs scored, seven home runs, 26 RBI, and eight stolen bases.
Atlanta will be extremely dissatisfied with the current Rosario if they were hoping to witness the one who had previously performed for them. However, since they are already playing him, they need to have very little internal support from the company for themselves.
Rosario and his constant sub-.200 average would be welcome additions to the Braves starting lineup. Ultimately, the more games the struggling Rosario is made to play, the more probable it is that the Phillies will defeat their division opponents and win the NL East crown sooner rather than later.
