Good News: Another Top Elite Player flips from Texas A&M To Commit To Texas Longhorns

Elite RHP Flips Commitment from Texas A&M to Texas

Ahead of the 2024 MLB Draft, the Texas Longhorns secured a significant commitment flip, landing top pitching prospect Drew Rerick from the Texas A&M Aggies. Rerick, a right-hander from Fargo, North Dakota, boasts a fastball that reaches 98 mph and is a highly regarded prospect for the upcoming draft.

In an interview on Hot Mic in Fargo, Rerick cited his relationships with Texas head coach Jim Schlossnagle and pitching coach Max Weiner as key factors in his decision. A recent visit to Texas, where he saw the new baseball facilities and experienced the program’s winning tradition, also influenced his choice.

The Longhorns’ gain might be short-lived depending on the draft outcome. Rerick, rated as the No. 242 player by ESPN, is the first North Dakotan to attend the MLB Draft Combine. He expressed his evolving ambitions from playing college baseball to potentially joining the professional ranks, a journey that began with a significant improvement in his sophomore year of high school.

Rerick is poised to become the first high school player from North Dakota selected in the top 11 rounds of the draft, likely between the second and fourth rounds. Initially committed to Missouri, Rerick switched to Texas A&M last August before his recent decision to join Texas.

Standing at 6’5” and 230 pounds, Rerick has the ideal build for a power pitcher. His fastball, usually sitting in the mid-90s, can reach 98 mph with impressive cut and rise. At the Draft Combine, he consistently threw his fastball at 92-94 mph and showcased a slider and a newly added curveball. His changeup, by his own assessment, is still developing.

Rerick’s pedigree adds to his profile—his father, Michael, shares the Division II single-game strikeout record with 21 for North Dakota State and was a 22nd-round draft pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1998.

As Rerick joins the Longhorns, he and other Texas players and signees will await the draft results, which could significantly influence their professional futures.
