The Miami Dolphins may take into consideration potential trade packages if Tyreek Hill, who only has three years left on his contract, decides to seek an extension. In 2022, Hill signed a four-year, $120 million contract with the Dolphins, making him the highest-paid wide receiver in the National Football League.
The market for wide receivers in 2024 has become incredibly pricey due in part to Hill’s deal. Teams usually shell out a lot of money for quarterbacks, but wide receivers are increasingly worth a lot of money.
Hill’s $30 million yearly compensation has been topped by wide receivers including Justin Jefferson, A.J. Brown, and Amon-Ra St. Brown; Jefferson makes the highest amount, at $35 million annually. It appears that Hill is not too pleased with his current ranking of fourth on the wideout salary list.
Things appear to have changed even though Hill originally declared that his current deal with the Dolphins would be his last before retiring. After the 2023 season, he started pursuing contract negotiations with the Dolphins, but the organization is in a precarious financial position to satisfy his demands.
Jaylen Waddle, a wide receiver, has consented to a $84.75 million, three-year contract deal. Given that Tua Tagovailoa is about to enter the last year of his $30 million rookie contract, the Dolphins will probably give him priority next. Tyreek Hill’s contract extension seems doubtful in light of these circumstances, thus the Dolphins will have to look at other trade options.
For several months, the San Francisco 49ers’ situation with Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel has been under observation by the Pittsburgh Steelers. They should, however, focus more on Tyreek Hill, who is a more readily available alternative.
Given that they can afford to maintain both of their top wide receivers, it seems unlikely that the 49ers will let either of them go. The Miami Dolphins’ $8.9 million salary cap room may be limited, and they have other, more urgent needs.
By far the best receiver on the Steelers squad is George Pickens. However, you quickly discover that he is, at most, a complementing wide receiver when you compare him to other outstanding wide receivers. They would need a true offensive leader even with his 1,140 yards and a league-best 18.1 yards per reception at the end of the previous season.
The Steelers are revamping their offense. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, two elite quarterbacks, were recently added to their roster. Their attack will be more frightening if they acquire a great wide receiver.
The salary cap space available to the Steelers is $18.2 million. They can therefore afford to sign Hill. They hope to get over their dismal playoff defeat to the Buffalo Bills from the previous season, and acquiring a top-tier wide receiver might be the final missing piece.
