Good News: Bruins sign pair of defensemen to one-year, two-way contracts

On Friday, the Bruins strengthened their roster by re-signing two defensemen, Alec Regula and Michael Callahan, who are expected to begin the season with the Providence Bruins. These signings add depth and flexibility to the team, especially in the event of injuries or other unforeseen circumstances.

Alec Regula, 23, was acquired by the Bruins in the Taylor Hall trade and has shown considerable promise. Last season, he played in 55 games for Providence, recording four goals and 22 assists while achieving an impressive plus-36 rating. Regula’s performance demonstrates his potential to make significant contributions when called upon. His ability to play a strong two-way game adds valuable versatility to the Bruins’ defensive lineup.

Michael Callahan, 24, is a Providence College alumnus hailing from Franklin. In the previous season, he played 70 games with the P-Bruins, scoring four goals and assisting on thirteen others. Callahan’s consistent play and familiarity with the local hockey environment make him a reliable option for the Bruins. His development within the organization highlights his readiness to step up when needed.

The contracts signed by Regula and Callahan are one-year, two-way deals, each with a $775,000 NHL cap hit. These contracts not only provide the Bruins with cap flexibility but also ensure that both players remain valuable assets within the organization.

The recent acquisition of Nikita Zadorov further bolsters the Bruins’ defensive corps, positioning the team as nearly varsity ready. With Zadorov, Mason Lohrei, and Hampus Lindholm on the left side, and Charlie McAvoy, Brandon Carlo, and Andrew Peeke on the right, the Bruins boast a solid and balanced defense. Parker Wotherspoon is expected to serve as the seventh defenseman, providing additional depth.
