**Braves Named Most Likely Trade Destination for White Sox Pitcher**
As the Braves finish their first half of the season against the Padres, GM Alex Anthopoulos is expected to be busy leading up to the MLB Trade deadline.
Currently, the Braves’ biggest roster needs are outfield and shortstop. While finding a replacement for Orlando Arcia might be challenging, it remains a critical need. Acquiring outfield talent should be easier, and the Braves are expected to make multiple acquisitions, similar to their 2021 trade deadline success that led to a World Series win.
Despite general agreement among Braves fans about these needs, MLB analysts are focused on pitching. While pitching depth is always valuable, Atlanta’s rotation is strong. Max Fried, Chris Sale, and Reynaldo Lopez form a formidable trio, with Charlie Morton, Spencer Schwellenbach, Bryce Elder, Ian Anderson, and AJ Smith-Shawver completing the rotation.
Although the Braves might not need a starter immediately, they could pursue a deal if an irresistible opportunity arises or to fill potential future gaps left by Fried and Morton in 2025.
Jim Bowden of The Athletic predicts the Braves will seek a starter, naming them a top contender for Erick Fedde of the White Sox.
“Veteran starter Erick Fedde is the White Sox player most likely to be traded, with the Cardinals, Orioles, and Braves as the most likely landing spots.”
Fedde, 31, is having an excellent year with a sub-3.00 ERA over 111.1 innings, recently pitching five scoreless frames. His journey back to the majors is remarkable, having struggled with a 5.41 ERA over six seasons before reinventing himself in Korea in 2023 by adding a sweeper and dropping his curveball.
Acquiring Fedde would add to the Braves’ pitching depth, and it’s wise to stockpile good players and figure out the specifics later.
