**MLB Insider Discusses Yankees’ Plans for Jasson Dominguez Ahead of Trade Deadline**
Rumors suggest the New York Yankees will be aggressive buyers at the MLB trade deadline, potentially making a significant trade to boost their already strong roster.
The Yankees are primarily seeking relievers and corner infielders. They aim to enhance their bullpen with high-strikeout relief pitchers and are also interested in acquiring a first or third baseman to provide more options for replacing Anthony Rizzo.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees are not willing to trade top prospect Jasson Dominguez this summer, even for an impact player. Instead, they hope Dominguez will earn a starting spot in the Opening Day lineup next season.
“Two evaluators concurred that the Yankees had Dominguez and Jones as their most protected prospects, with last year’s first-round pick, shortstop George Lombard, just below them. The rest of the system was perceived as more available in trades.”
Dominguez is expected to miss most of the 2024 season due to an oblique injury, with manager Aaron Boone indicating he has a long recovery ahead.
The 21-year-old outfielder made his MLB debut in 2023, hitting .258/.303/.677 with 4 home runs in 40 plate appearances. Despite a 24.2 percent strikeout rate and a below-average on-base percentage, his power potential is clear.
Dominguez is likely to start the 2025 season at Triple-A. If he performs well and remains healthy, he could be called up by early May 2025.
While Dominguez and Jones are off-limits, several other top Yankees prospects are believed to be available for trade. This may exclude New York from acquiring All-Star closer Mason Miller, but there are still attractive trade options the Yankees can pursue.
