**Jamal Cain Signs Two-Way Deal With Pelicans**
On July 12, free agent wing Jamal Cain agreed to a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Cain, 25, spent his first two professional seasons with the Miami Heat, appearing in 44 games and averaging 4.4 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.
The 6’6″ guard/forward made a mark in limited opportunities with Miami, averaging 8.0 points and 5.3 rebounds during a three-game win streak in the 2022-23 season and recording 18 points and six rebounds in a win over the Warriors in the 2023-24 season.
Cain played four years of college basketball at Marquette before transferring to Oakland. He went undrafted in 2022 but joined the Heat on a two-way contract.
While Cain had limited regular-season playing time with the Heat, he saw more action in the Summer League, preseason, and G League. He averaged 10.9 points per game in nine preseason games over two seasons with Miami and posted averages of 21.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game with the Skyforce, shooting .540/.372/.815 over two years.
Last offseason, Cain sought a standard contract but ultimately re-signed with Miami on a two-way deal. Due to a roster crunch, Cain never received a promotion to a standard contract. After the Heat filled their two-way spots and regular roster early in free agency, it became clear Cain would not return.
The Pelicans now acquire a productive wing who benefited from Miami’s development program. According to the 2024-25 two-way contract tracker, the Pelicans have one two-way spot filled by Malcolm Hill. With No. 47 overall pick Antonio Reeves yet to sign his rookie contract, it’s possible he will fill one of the two open spots alongside Cain.
