Good News: Five-Star WR commits to Tennessee over SEC Rivals Alabama And LSU

**Four-Star WR Travis Smith Jr. Chooses Tennessee Over SEC Rivals**

Tennessee football has been on a recruiting hot streak this summer, securing commitments from several top-tier players. Over the past month and a half, the Volunteers have welcomed seven new recruits, five of whom are four-star athletes.

The latest addition to Tennessee’s roster is four-star wide receiver Travis Smith Jr. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Smith is the No. 149 player nationally, the No. 16 receiver, and the No. 15 player in Georgia. On3 Sports ranks him even higher, placing Smith as the No. 59 player in the country, the No. 10 receiver, and the No. 8 player in Georgia.

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Smith selected Tennessee over other prestigious SEC programs, including Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Arkansas. Trained by former NFL receiver Terrance Edwards, Smith has drawn comparisons to former Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons star Julio Jones. Edwards praises Smith’s height, speed, and ability to track the football, describing him as the total package and a potential future star.

Hudson Standish, a recruiting analyst for 247Sports, also speaks highly of Smith. He describes Smith as having a “prototypical outside receiver build,” standing at around 6-foot-4 and weighing 200 pounds, with an impressive wingspan. Standish notes that Smith is a formidable matchup on the field, excelling in contested catch scenarios and showcasing a wide range of routes. While Smith may not have elite top-end speed, he has a talent for creating separation and tracking the ball effectively.

Smith’s commitment is a significant boost for Tennessee’s 2025 recruiting class, propelling the Vols to No. 11 in the 247Sports class rankings and No. 13 in On3’s rankings. Smith joins three-star receivers Joachim Dodson from Chattanooga and Radarious Jackson from Memphis, forming a potentially elite receiving trio for Tennessee.

In addition to Smith, Tennessee’s recruiting efforts have caught the attention of five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr., who is nearing a decision on his college future. The Vols remain a strong contender for Sanders, adding to the excitement surrounding their recruiting class.
