Texas Longhorns linebacker Jonathan Cunningham is a top prospect for their 2025 recruiting class.
Over the past few weeks, the Texas Longhorns have missed out on a number of important targets.
That was not the case on Friday, though, as four-star linebacker Jonathan Cunningham of North Crowley (Fort Worth, Texas) committed to the Horns.
Cunningham announced his decision during four official visitations, which included a trip to Austin on June 14th, and selected the Longhorns over many other schools, including Utah and TCU. Cunningham also made visits to TCU on May 3, Utah on June 7, and Kansas on June 21.
Texas linebackers coach Johnny Nansen, who joined the program this off-season to take Jeff Choate’s place as the new head coach at Nevada, was the main person who recruited Cunningham.
Cunningham, a four-star prospect, is ranked No. 24 among linebackers in the 2025 class and No. 56 among players in the state by Rivals.com.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Cunningham is a three-star recruit as well as the No. 44 linebacker, No. 63 prospect in Texas, and No. 422 overall prospect.
Cunningham led North Crowley to a 14-1 record and a trip to the 6A State quarterfinals in the previous season, finishing with 38 tackles, nine tackles for loss, one sack, and six quarterback rushes.
After four-star Elijah Barnes, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Cunningham now becomes the 14th commitment of the Horns’ 2025 class and their second linebacker. Along with four-star edge rusher Smith Orogbo (who committed on July 1) and four-star cornerback Kade Phillips (who committed on July 6), he is also the Longhorns’ third commitment this month.
