In the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft, Owen Hall, a pledge to Vanderbilt, was taken by the Detroit Tigers. He will now have to decide whether to pursue a college education or start his professional job right away.
Hall recently completed his final year at North High School in Edmond, Oklahoma. As a junior, he and Nebraska commit shortstop Pryce Bender led the team to the state tournament quarterfinals.
It’s safe to say that Hall has had a solid mentor to help him prepare for the Major League Baseball (MLB) as his father was a pitcher and played collegiate baseball for Arkansas. There are reports that the right-hander can hit a fastball up to 98 mph.
After his senior year, Hall was selected an all-state pick. Prep Baseball Report ranks him as the third talent from Oklahoma in the 2024 class. Even at the age of 18, he already exhibits a great deal of talent, and he still has plenty of room to develop.
Should Hall choose not to move straight to the Major League Baseball, he will be joining a Vanderbilt squad that finished 38-23 in the previous campaign. The Commodores should once again be a strong contender in the SEC, so we’ll be waiting for his choice.

An additional evaluation of Hall’s game was provided by MLB.com in a scouting report on his player profile. It said that he could throw a fastball in the mid-90s in the major leagues and gave his slider a lot of credit.
According to the article, Hall mostly uses a fastball that reaches 98 mph with explosive life up in the strike zone and sits between 91 and 94 mph. Once he gains strength, his quickness and 6-foot-3 body could allow him to regularly deal in the mid-90s. He offers two different breaking balls; his mid-70s curveball is inconsistent but gets swings and misses more often than his low-80s slider, which is more promising and draws more chases.
Although Hall hardly ever uses his mid-80s changeup, with increased usage and increased velocity separation from his fastball, it has the potential to develop into an averging pitch. He has good movement on the mound and uses a high arm slot to provide depth on his breaking throws and an induced vertical break on his fastball. His fastball now dominates the zone, but he still has to work on controlling his other pitches.
