**Texas Secures Commitment from 5-Star Recruit Nick Townsend**

Nick Townsend, a five-star recruit and the No. 3 athlete prospect in the nation for the Class of 2025, has verbally committed to Texas. This significant addition to the Longhorns was announced on Monday, marking a major win for Texas coach Steve Sarkisian. Townsend chose Texas over other top programs including Alabama, Texas A&M, Southern California, and Arizona State.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 235 pounds, Townsend excels both as a tight end and defensive lineman. According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, he is the No. 114 recruit nationally and No. 21 in the state of Texas. His junior year performance at Dekaney High School in Houston was impressive, with Townsend catching 18 passes for 431 yards and seven touchdowns in just 10 games. He also contributed on the ground, rushing six times for two touchdowns.

On the defensive side, Townsend showcased his versatility and skill. He recorded 76 tackles, eight sacks, and 11.5 tackles for loss. Additionally, he managed to recover three fumbles, highlighting his playmaking abilities. His performance on both sides of the ball indicates his potential to play multiple positions at Texas, including tight end, linebacker, or defensive end.
