According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Golden State Warriors have inked NBA Summer League standout Daeqwon Plowden to a two-way contract.
After Plowden scored 19 points in the Warriors’ 90-73 victory over the Phoenix Suns on July 13, Anthony Vereen, the Summer League coach for the Warriors, gave Plowden, who was not selected in the 2022 selection, a hearty endorsement.
Vereen told reporters, “He’s [Plowden] shown that he should be in the NBA.” “I just gave Ryan Atkinson, the general manager of the Santa Cruz Warriors, a hug for my roster. These guys are demonstrating that they are exactly where they want to be. The intensity and aggression with which he plays on both ends. As a coach, it’s enjoyable to watch him improve himself because he never takes a play off.
In the California Classic, Plowden averaged 17 points per game for the unbeaten Warriors. He continued his scorching scoring run with an effective 8 of 12 from the field, including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc.
Plowden scored 14 points in the Warriors’ 92-82 victory over the Chicago Bulls two days later.
For the 5-0 Warriors in the NBA Summer League, the microwave scorer is averaging 16.6 points (53.7 FG, 48.1 3FG, 70.6 FT), 3.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 blocks in 28.2 minutes.
“I Consume Food in the Middle of Everything”
Plowden’s continual movement intrigued Vereen the most; this is a skill that will flourish in Steve Kerr’s Warriors system.
“They won’t run plays for you in the flow of the game if you’re going to be a role player at the next level,” Vereen remarked. “He’s proving he can contribute to the NBA by being so productive and efficient without having to be called upon to do the menial tasks and dirty work.”
From the beginning, Plowden was cutting and moving without the ball.
Plowden told reporters, “I feel like the way I eat is within the flow of everything, and tonight we [we] are just flowing.”
Daeqwon Plowden Impresses the Warriors GM
Mike Dunleavy Jr., the general manager of the Warriors, was courtside when the 6-foot-6 Plowden broke out against the Suns.
When Plowden joined Mark Jones and Doris Burke in the broadcast booth, Dunleavy remarked of him, “He’s really been impressive.” He’s a nice-looking guy. He simply learns things up fast, and it’s clear that he can shoot the ball well in this situation.
Playing freely was Plowden’s only thought before to tearing through the NBA Summer League and earning the well-deserved deal.
Plowden told reporters, “I try not to think about it too much; I feel like if it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen.” It will occur as a result of my going out there and demonstrating my abilities within the company as well as the way it is operated. I feel like contemplating it will make me feel much more pressured, and for now, I’m just having fun.
And it took place.
Plowden became one of the Warriors’ two-way players, along with Pat Spencer and Reece Beekman.
All of them are qualified to be rostered for 50 regular-season games, even though they are anticipated to play the most of the season with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League.
