Goalie Arturs Silovs has signed a two-year contract extension with the Vancouver Canucks. He’ll fight for a position on the team full-time.
The Vancouver Canucks have signed goaltender Artūrs Šilovs to a two-year contract worth $850,000 yearly, general manager Patrik Allvin revealed. The 23-year-old goalie will compete in the approaching training camp for a regular spot on the team.
GM Allvin stated, “Artūrs continues to grow and develop as a goalie. He helped us out a lot when called upon last year.” “We anticipate that he will report to training camp and compete for a full-time role with the major league team.”
Šilovs Is Heading in the Correct Way
In his scant NHL experience, Šilovs has shown both promise and inconsistency. He has made nine appearances with the Canucks over the last two seasons, all of which he has started. He recorded an excellent 6-2-1 record despite his mediocre 2.62 goals-against average (GAA) and.898 save percentage (SV%). His numbers indicate that he might be a dependable spot starter for a competitive team and that he could temporarily replace Thatcher Demko as the starting goalie in the event of an injury.
His best performance came during the playoffs, when he entered and led the Vancouver Canucks to a successful series victory over the Edmonton Oilers. Although Edmonton won, he was largely responsible for the series’ closeness. Šilovs made his NHL postseason debut, playing in ten games and finishing with a 5-5 record, 2.91 GAA, and.898 SV%.
Šilovs played 34 AHL regular season games with the Abbotsford Canucks in 2023–24, finishing with a record of 16–11–6, 2.74 GAA, and.907 SV%. In his four games during the regular season, he recorded a 3-0-1 record, 2.47 goals against average, and an.881 save percentage for Vancouver. Additionally,
