Cameron Payne, a free agent guard, has signed a one-year contract with the New York Knicks, as announced by The Athletic and Bleacher Report on Monday. The deal is reportedly valued at $3.1 million.
Payne, who is set to turn thirty next month, played for both the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2023–24 season. Over the course of 78 games, he maintained an average of 7.4 points and 2.6 assists per game. While with Philadelphia, where he played 31 games and started eight, Payne averaged 9.3 points and 3.1 assists per game.
Known for his proficiency in three-point shooting, Payne made 39 percent of his shots from beyond the arc last season. Over his four-season stint with the Phoenix Suns from 2019 to 2023, he maintained a 38.4 percent three-point shooting accuracy. His shooting skills have made him a valuable asset to the teams he has played for.
Joining the Knicks marks Payne’s tenure with his sixth NBA franchise. His career began with the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he played from 2015 to 2017. He then moved to the Chicago Bulls from 2017 to 2019, followed by a brief stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2019. After his time with the Cavs, he joined the Phoenix Suns and later played for the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers.
Throughout his NBA career, Payne has participated in 405 games, starting in 66 of them. He has averaged 7.9 points, 3.3 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game. His journey through various teams and consistent performance highlight his adaptability and skill, making him a significant addition to the Knicks’ roster.
