Because of his admiration for Ronald Acuña Jr., outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the Marlins may find his dream home with the Braves.
The utility player for the Miami Marlins, Jazz Chisholm Jr., will most likely be dealt before the impending trade deadline. The questions that need to be answered are not if he will be dealt, but rather when and to which team.
Though there has been conjecture on his potential match, Chisholm himself hasn’t given us much information. Up until recently, that is.
In a 2022 rapid-fire interview, Chisholm responded to a range of questions in under a minute. Three particular responses jumped out, particularly for Atlanta Braves supporters. Take a look at it:
He said that, aside from himself, Acuña Jr. of the Atlanta Braves was his favorite player and the player with the most swagger.
Even more intriguing was the response to his favorite type of road environment. He mentioned his favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves, and said as much. Now that he’s available for relocation, Atlanta seems to be the ideal place for him to end up.
A deal between the Braves and Mariners that allowed Jazz Chisholm to play with his favorite player
Getting Chisholm would give the Braves more adaptability. Both in the middle of the infield and anyplace else in the outfield, he can play. This gives them the flexibility to switch players around to adjust for rest and to platoon any of their batters who are having trouble against a particular handed pitcher.
Ozzie Albies occasionally could slip to shortstop. If the Braves had a game-changing player like Chisholm in their lineup, they would have a ton of options. But closing the deal would be costly. But not one Atlanta cannot afford.
The Braves could afford to let go of Drue Hackenberg and Darius Vines following their recent draft haul. The Braves selected nine pitchers with their first ten picks, making their ninth and thirteenth-ranked prospects worthless to the team. Vines, 26, is a skilled arm who is in dire need of a change of scenery in order to resume his professional career. Hackenberg, 22, is pitching well this season, with a 3.80 ERA through two minor league levels.
The star of this trade is Nacho Alvarez, who provides a shortstop who appears to be ready for the major leagues right now. Ever since he was promoted to Triple-A, Alvarez has been cutting. In 25 games, he batted 317/.403/.538 with six home runs and five doubles. When you combine this with his strong shortstop defense, you have one of the Braves’ better prospects.
