**Alabama DB Malachi Moore on Antonio Kite’s Transfer to Auburn: ‘My Brother at the End of the Day’**
The transfer portal era has brought a free agency-like atmosphere to college football, especially when a coach departs. However, it’s rare for players to switch to their school’s biggest rival, which is what happened with former Alabama defensive back Antonio Kite, who transferred to Auburn.
Kite entered the transfer portal on January 13, just three days after Nick Saban retired. Four days later, Auburn announced Kite’s signing.
“[Kite] is my brother at the end of the day, so I wish him the best and hope he excels in every game except the last one on their and our schedule,” said Alabama DB Malachi Moore at SEC Media Days when asked about Kite joining Auburn.
Moore praised Kite, a sophomore from Anniston, highlighting his impressive skills. “He’s definitely a very electrifying player. It’s crazy to think he just started playing football a few years ago,” Moore said.
Auburn cornerbacks coach Wesley McGriff also spoke highly of Kite in March but acknowledged the challenges of adapting to a new program. “When a player changes locations, their whole world is turned upside down,” McGriff said. “He’s shown bright spots with his skill set and talent. I’m excited to see him put it all together.”
Kite played in nine games over two seasons for Alabama, mostly on special teams. He was a four-star recruit from Anniston High School in the 2022 class, according to 247Sports.
“He’s extremely talented. He has natural movement and cover skills for a corner,” said Auburn co-defensive coordinator DJ Durkin. “I see so much potential in him. He has a chance to be a really good player for us.”
Kite is one of three defensive back transfers joining Auburn this season, along with Texas transfer Jerrin Thompson and Colorado transfer Jahquez Robinson, another former Alabama player. They will replace key players like DJ James, Nehemiah Pritchett, Jaylin Simpson, Zion Puckett, and Donovan Kaufman.
