When they think it’s time, the Green Bay Packers haven’t hesitated to let go of or move on from players. Both well-known athletes and fan favorites have experienced this. You only need to consider the past few off-seasons in which the Packers let go of Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, Aaron Jones, and David Bakhtiari.
But a 28-year-old veteran of Green Bay’s was announced to be leaving today.
The roster for the Green Bay Packers is complete before training camp starts. The wide receivers Jalen Wayne and Rory Starkey were signed by the Packers, it was revealed on Friday.
To make place for these additions, Alex McGough, a former MVP quarterback in the USFL, was injured or waived. The team currently has 91 players because to Kenneth Odumegwu’s roster exemption granted by the International Pathway Program.
The announcement of Alex McGough’s departure was unexpected. He will return to Green Bay’s injured reserve if waivers are cleared following a hamstring injury sustained during the summer. In these situations, Green Bay often consents to waive the player when an injury settlement is reached.
McGough played in the NFL for nine seasons, formerly for the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Seattle Seahawks. He spent two seasons with the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL, where in 2023 he won the MVP award for the league. After that season, he was approached by several NFL teams, but he decided to join with the Packers.
