**Dallas Mavericks Eye 10-Year Veteran for Roster Spot**
After reaching the NBA Finals, the Dallas Mavericks have had a notable offseason. They acquired Klay Thompson and traded Tim Hardaway Jr. to the Detroit Pistons for Quentin Grimes. With one roster spot remaining, the Mavericks are considering a familiar face.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Mavericks are interested in reuniting with free agent guard Spencer Dinwiddie. Stein also mentioned Dennis Smith Jr. and Talen Horton-Tucker as potential candidates, but Dinwiddie is the leading option.
“Dallas might keep the spot open for now, but league sources say the Mavericks are interested in re-signing Spencer Dinwiddie. Dinwiddie has maintained property in the Dallas area since his trade to Brooklyn in the Kyrie Irving deal in February 2023 and is interested in returning.”
Dinwiddie previously played parts of two seasons with Dallas from 2022 to 2023, averaging 17.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. Last season, he split his time between the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 10.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game.
Earlier in the offseason, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that both the Lakers and Mavericks were interested in Dinwiddie. Jovan Buha and Shams Charania of The Athletic also linked the Lakers to Dinwiddie, alongside Gary Trent Jr., who has since signed with the Milwaukee Bucks.
A return to Dallas could benefit both sides. Dinwiddie is a seasoned veteran who could help any contending team. He is solid on both ends of the floor and an excellent playmaker. For the Mavericks, who had an impressive playoff run despite losing to the Boston Celtics, adding Dinwiddie could enhance their chances of returning to the Finals next season.
