Official Mavs News: Dallas Mavericks Confirm The Departure Of Another Top Experienced Superstar

Josh Green’s exit from the Mavericks creates a prime opportunity for a new guard. The Dallas Mavericks are undergoing a significant offseason, having bolstered their roster following a trip to the NBA Finals. However, the free agency buzz has paused as the focus shifts to the Summer League.

Dallas secured a win in their first Summer League game against the Boston Celtics, with Olivier-Maxence Prosper scoring 22 points. Despite a slow start to Summer League, Prosper showcased his promising potential.

The offseason excitement for Mavs fans is partly due to acquiring Klay Thompson in a six-team sign-and-trade. However, this deal also included the departure of Josh Green to the Charlotte Hornets. Green, known for his hustle, energy, and 3-point shooting, was a valuable player for Dallas, but his move to Charlotte opens the door for a new guard.

Last month, Dallas traded Tim Hardaway Jr. and three second-round picks to the Detroit Pistons for Quentin Grimes. Grimes now has a chance to play a significant role on the team. Last season, Grimes averaged 7.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game, shooting 37.2 percent from the field. Though these numbers aren’t extraordinary, Grimes could seamlessly step into Green’s former role.

Grimes has the potential to be a better shooter than Green, often taking tougher shots and shooting off the dribble. Playing alongside Luka Doncic will likely give him excellent scoring opportunities. Additionally, Grimes can attack closeouts, finish at the rim, or pass to a big, focusing on enhancing his playmaking skills.

Defensively, Grimes is expected to excel in Jason Kidd’s system. Known for his tenacious defense, he is capable of taking on the toughest matchups effectively. Heading into the next season, Grimes might become the team’s best guard defender, replacing Derrick Jones Jr.’s defensive role.

After a challenging end to last season with the Pistons, Grimes is determined to fill Green’s shoes and potentially become a fan favorite for the Mavericks.

Stay tuned for more updates on Quentin Grimes and the Dallas Mavericks throughout the offseason.
