The Chicago Bulls signed DJ Steward, a former G League guard for the Boston Celtics, to a two-way contract on Sunday. With the Bulls, Steward played in the NBA Summer League, and his excellent play earned him a contract. During Summer League, Steward led the squad in both assists and points. The Chicago native is now under contract with his home team.
In a news release, the Bulls stated, “The Chicago Bulls announced today the team has signed guard DJ Steward to a two-way contract.” With the Maine Celtics, the Boston Celtics’ G League affiliate, in 2023–24, Steward, 6-2, 162, played in 32 games (five starts) and averaged 19.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 0.8 steals in 29.7 minutes. A season ago, Steward scored 30 or more points twice and finished with 18
games with 20 or more points, along with three double-doubles. Throughout 30 or more games played in 2023–24, he was one of only six G League players to average at least 19.0 points per game. As part of a nine-game string in which he scored 20 points or more, the Chicago, Illinois native was awarded G League Player of the Week for games played from March 11–17, 2024. During that time, he averaged 27.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. This was the longest run he had ever had in the G League.
As you can see, DJ Steward had a great season in the G League and hopes to continue that success with the Bulls.

DJ Steward had a terrific Summer League appearance with the Bulls. At 17.4 points per game and 6.4 assists per game, he topped the squad in both categories. With 1.4 steals per game, he ranked fourth on the squad, and with 29.1 minutes per game, he was third.
Steward had a stint with the Duke basketball team before joining the NBA. In his one season as a Blue Devil, he averaged 2.4 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 13 points per game.
Let’s see whether Steward can secure a long-term contract with the Bulls.
