**5-Star Safety Target Jonah Williams to Visit Texas Longhorns**
Jonah Williams, one of the top safety prospects, has scheduled a visit to the University of Texas at Austin. The Longhorns aim to strengthen their recruiting class before the 2024 season, focusing particularly on their secondary. Currently, they have commitments from four-star cornerback Kade Phillips and three-star cornerback Caleb Chester for the 2025 cycle.
Williams, a five-star safety from Ball High School in Galveston, Texas, plans to visit Austin on July 25, as reported by Inside Texas. He has not yet set a commitment date. Ranked as the No. 10 player nationally, the No. 1 safety, and the No. 3 player in Texas by the On3 Industry Ranking, Williams is a highly sought-after recruit.
In his junior year, Williams excelled on both offense and defense. He recorded 20 catches for 474 yards and eight touchdowns, and rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, he made 58 tackles, four tackles for loss, and four interceptions, including three pick-sixes. Additionally, he returned two punts and two kicks for touchdowns.
The Longhorns’ chances of landing Williams may be boosted by their new head baseball coach, Jim Schlossnagle. Williams is also a top baseball prospect and had previously favored the Aggies partly because of his connection to Schlossnagle. Williams mentioned in a recent interview with 247Sports that this coaching change could positively impact his recruitment, saying, “It would definitely move Texas up.”
Currently, Texas does not have a safety commitment, although Phillips is projected to play that position at the next level.
