Another huge victory for LSU comes when a five-star prospect declares his commitment.
Derek Meadows, a five-star receiver from Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, has committed to LSU, head coach Brian Kelly said a few days after the school signed five-star cornerback DJ Pickett.
The 6-5, 200-pound player had been a longtime Notre Dame lean, but upon his formal visit to LSU, everything changed. The Tigers were able to close the deal by entertaining him and rolling out the red carpet. On July 13, LSU came very close to getting his commitment, but ultimately chose to wait a week to be sure he was convinced about it. He selected the Tigers a week later, and he couldn’t be more pleased with his choice.
“From Day 1 those coaches believed in me and coach Hankton is a great coach who I know will get the best out of me,” Meadows stated to 247Sports. With him, it’s all about progress, and I have no doubt that he will mentor me more than anyone else. I have faith and confidence in him as a coach, and he believes in me and my ability, so I know we’ll get along well. For me, the official visit was really significant. Every coach looks after each other like family. I’m certain that’s what I want to be doing. It will mean a lot to play in the SEC, and I’m sure I’ll work hard to compete against the best.”
