**Houston Texans Reportedly Add Another Weapon for C.J. Stroud**
The Houston Texans continue to strengthen their roster around promising young quarterback C.J. Stroud. Earlier this offseason, the Texans made headlines by acquiring Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills and Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals.
With training camp underway, general manager Nick Caserio isn’t slowing down. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Houston has signed veteran running back Cam Akers to a one-year contract.
Akers will compete with Dameon Pierce to be the second running back behind Mixon this season. The former second-round pick from Florida State spent his first three-plus seasons with the Los Angeles Rams before joining the Minnesota Vikings midway through last season.
Akers made a strong impression as a rookie for the Rams in 2020, recording 625 rushing yards. However, he suffered a torn Achilles the following summer, impacting his sophomore season.
In 2022, Akers bounced back with 787 rushing yards and seven touchdowns but fell out of favor with Rams head coach Sean McVay and was waived after appearing in just one game last season.
Now with the Texans, Akers will have the chance to compete for playing time in a suddenly crowded backfield as Houston gears up for the 2024 season.
