Latest Spurs News: Just In San Antonio Spurs Confirm The Departure Of Another Top Experienced Sharpshooter

**Spurs Lose Former NBA Sharpshooter to Suns**

Brent Barry, San Antonio Spurs’ vice president of basketball operations, has left to join Phoenix Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer’s staff, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Barry’s move from the front office to coaching parallels Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, both being former NBA sharpshooters with multiple championships. Barry, following the example of Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick, is starting a new chapter in his career after six years.

Barry’s experience with the Spurs, a team known for their principles under Gregg Popovich, will benefit the Suns. His addition could enhance ball movement and quick decision-making, boosting Phoenix’s offensive potential by creating better shots, crucial for a team with three stars.

Budenholzer is expected to focus on the three-point shot, an area where Barry excels. As a career 40.5 percent 3-point shooter and the 2003 3-Point Contest winner, Barry can provide hands-on development, particularly benefiting defensive ace Josh Okogie.

**Internal Hires On The Way?**

The Spurs face a significant challenge in replacing Barry, who held substantial authority. General manager Brian Wright, with the Spurs since 2016, is a likely candidate. Wright, who began his career as a scouting coordinator for the Orlando Magic in 2006, has extensive experience.

San Antonio has several options for filling the general manager position. Former Cleveland Cavaliers GM and Atlanta Hawks president Danny Ferry, now a Spurs basketball operations consultant, could be considered. Ferry, who served as Spurs’ vice president of basketball operations in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, has a successful track record with the Spurs, Cavs, and Hawks, making him a strong contender. He might also be considered for the vice president role, though Wright’s familiarity with the franchise is an advantage.
