Brewers Place All-Star OF Christian Yelich on Injured List with Lower Back Inflammation
CHICAGO (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have placed outfielder Christian Yelich on the 10-day injured list due to lower back inflammation. This decision came on Wednesday, a day after Yelich was removed from a game when his back tightened up. The Brewers also reinstated catcher Gary Sánchez from the injured list.
Yelich, 32, is having a standout season for the NL Central-leading Brewers, making his third All-Star Game appearance. He leads the NL with a .315 batting average and a .406 on-base percentage, and has recorded 11 homers, 42 RBIs, and 21 steals in 73 games.
However, he has struggled since the All-Star break, going 0 for 9 and 1 for 19 over his last six games. On Tuesday, he went 0 for 1 with two walks before being removed in the eighth inning of a 1-0 win over the Chicago Cubs.
Sánchez, 31, who has been sidelined for a month with a calf strain, returns with a .218 batting average, .293 on-base percentage, seven homers, and 21 RBIs in 51 games.
