Good News: Raiders Confirm Departure Of Another Highly Rated Star

24 July (UPI) — Michael Gallup, a wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders of the AFC West, will retire from the NFL at the age of 28.

On Tuesday, the Raiders announced Gallup’s retirement from the league by placing him on the reserve/retired list. Gallup also posted a number of updates on his Instagram story on his retirement.

Rookies for the Raiders arrived at Costa Mesa, California, training camp on Sunday. On Tuesday, veterans arrived at the Jack Hammett Sports Complex. In April, Gallup inked a one-year contract with the Raiders.

Gallup played for the Dallas Cowboys during his first six seasons. Over the course of 86 career appearances, the third-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft totaled 266 catches for 3,744 yards and 21 touchdowns.

In his 14 Cowboys games in 2019, Gallup recorded career-highs of 66 receptions, 1,107 yards, and six touchdowns. The former Colorado State standout was signed by the Cowboys to a $57.5 million contract extension in 2022, but that agreement was later changed.

During his 17 games last season, the veteran playmaker caught 34 catches for a career-low 418 yards and two touchdowns. Gallup was cut by the Cowboys in March.

In 2024–2025, Gallup was projected to be the backup to Raiders wide outs Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers.
On August 10 in Minneapolis, the Raiders will play their preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings at 4 p.m. EDT. On September 8, they will play the Los Angeles Chargers in Los Angeles to start the regular season.
