**Dallas Mavericks Sign Familiar Guard Spencer Dinwiddie from LA Lakers**
The Dallas Mavericks have filled their final roster spot by bringing back a familiar face instead of re-signing Markieff Morris or exploring other recent options.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Mavericks have signed Los Angeles Lakers guard Spencer Dinwiddie to a one-year deal. This marks Dinwiddie’s second stint with the team; he was initially acquired before the 2021-22 season in the Kristaps Porzingis trade and later sent to the Brooklyn Nets as part of the Kyrie Irving trade.
Dinwiddie had an opportunity to join the Mavericks last season after being bought out by the Toronto Raptors but opted to sign with the Lakers instead. During his 28-game tenure with the Lakers, he averaged 6.8 points per game in 24 minutes per game.
Dinwiddie played some of the best basketball of his career with the Mavericks, averaging 17.1 points per game in 76 games from 2021 to 2023. He was a key contributor to the team’s run to the Western Conference Finals in 2022 and is expected to provide solid backup support for Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Additionally, he will help develop young guards like Jaden Hardy.
Although this signing uses the final roster spot, the Mavericks could still make room for other players, such as Markieff Morris, by waiving someone or making a trade.
