New Alabama Crimson Tide commit, Caleb Cunningham, shares why he chose to join the team.
As the Alabama Crimson Tide prepare for the 2024 college football season, they enter a new era without legendary head coach Nick Saban, who retired this offseason. Kalen DeBoer, previously the head coach of the Washington Huskies, is now leading the team, aiming to maintain Alabama’s prominence in National Championship contention.
Saban’s legacy has cemented Alabama as a top destination for football talent, a status that remains despite his departure. DeBoer benefits from inheriting such a prestigious program.
Recently, Alabama secured the commitment of five-star 2025 wide receiver Caleb Cunningham, who is poised to become one of the Crimson Tide’s next star wideouts. Cunningham explained his decision to commit to Alabama.
“I just knew it, man. It was really in the middle of the visit. It just felt different. I had been there before, and Alabama was always high on my list, but I knew that was where I wanted to be. That is why I committed to Alabama.”
He further emphasized the family atmosphere he experienced at Alabama.
“I just felt like I was hanging out with family. The visit was different for me. Being around the people, I just felt comfortable. It was an official visit, but it didn’t feel like an official visit. That feeling made an impact on me. The people made me feel at home and that pushed them to the top.”
Standing at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, Cunningham excels in contested situations. A former high school basketball standout, he has an exceptional ability to jump and high-point the football.
Although Cunningham possesses considerable raw talent, he will need to refine his skills. The Alabama coaching staff will play a crucial role in helping him mature on the field.
Cunningham has also found significant success off the field, leveraging the NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) market. On3 ranks him as the No. 13 high school athlete in the NIL marketplace, with an estimated valuation of $488,000—an impressive achievement for a high school athlete.
Expect Cunningham to make an early impact in his college career. He has found an ideal fit at Alabama and is projected to play a significant role in their offense starting in 2025.
